mechanic told me I had a crack in my radiator (a 1996 Volvo 850). He replaced the radiator. I drove 3 miles and something burst, smoke coming into car through vents and there was coolant on driver’s side underneath mats. mechanic told me heater core broke and that sometimes happens when you replace the radiator. Mechanic replacedheater core I drove it 2 miles and same thing happened something burst, coolant inside car and on ground and smoke through vents. $700 later what’s going on!

My crazy Uncle told me to try something that ALWAYS works for him. He told me to take a cigarette, and roll all the tobacco out of the cigarette into the radiator, and fill it with 50/50 fluid. I did. . . . and haven’t seen a drop of fluid since!! IT REALLY REALLY WORKS!!!!

I have used radiator stop leak by bars and i agree with (grindinggears) it did stop up my heater core and can cause clogs elsewhere in the cooling system in the engine block if the leak is minor just keep the coolant level checked and filled until you can afford to replace it in the summertime you can remove your thermostat to reduce presure build up in the system
do not use any kind of cooling system leak sealer in your cooling system. although these products can stop a cooling system leak they also cause other problems that will end up costing more in the long run. the main problems are they also will stop up the heater core, which in 98% of vehicles on the road today is a very costly repair, they also accumulate at the thermostat ( basically a heat controlled orifice) causing a restriction in the coolant flow which causes an overheat condition
